As most of you know, I am currently subbing and not teaching until I find a new teaching job. Why would someone want to keep teaching with all the paperwork involved, the way the public seems to treat teachers (well according to the newspaper and news, but many tell me straight up they appreciate what us teachers do!), constant assessment, among other things?
For me I love to teach to make a difference in a children's lives. I have only taught at Title 1 schools where the vast majority are living in poverty. I know that I was the one stable part of those children's lives. I constantly received hugs and still do as a sub. The children tell me how I am the best teacher or sub they ever had. They draw me sweet pictures and make me such nice cards. The children I sub for beg me to sub for them again (at least 90% of the time if not more).
I am able to make learning fun for the children. I enjoy using music, movement, and technology in the classroom. I love seeing the excitement in a student's eyes.
I enjoy helping those that lag behind their classmates and helping them get on grade level. It's a joy to hear a child say I never liked to read before and now I love to read! I enjoy challenging the on level and above grade level students and helping them learn even more.
I really enjoy teaching children about character and where it is so important to make good choices now so they will continue to make good choices as they get older and become adults. I enjoy being a role model to students.
For these reasons I still love to teach and I hope to get that dream job sometime in the near future!
Thanks for hoppin' by Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings. Keep on smiling!
I hope you find a job soon. :) I know you are an excellent teacher. Merry Christmas
