In 2nd grade I'll be reviewing basic math facts to ensure everyone is ready to move on. I'll also be reviewing some of the reading strategies the kids should have learned last year, but probably forgot they know. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Andrea and good luck to you! :-)

DeleteMy younger kids are just starting to understand and learn about math sentences and concepts. The older guys ...well there are a lot of skills they need to learn. For now, we will be mastering all multiplication, decimal, and percentage math skills and moving into pre-algebra.
ReplyDeleteWow that is a lot of different skills you are working on with different ages! Good luck in the giveaway.
DeleteThe little guys are still learning to master their clock and time telling skills. Then we are off to learn about math sentences..adding and subtracting:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing and good luck!
DeleteThanks for a great giveaway! I'll be teaching grade 4 in both subjects.

Welcome! What skills will you be working on at the beginning of the year?
DeleteI usually start with the basics because I don't know exactly what skills they'll be coming into my classroom with. So, we'll do simple writing and reading for language and for math, we'll do Math All Around Me along with patterning.
DeleteThat makes perfect sense! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteTeaching in a private school in Canada...so, our students will start school on the third of September.
ReplyDeleteWow you have almost 2 months left! Enjoy the rest of your break!
DeleteYes, however I should have been more specific....my bad...teachers start Aug. 19 (right on my birthday) for meetings.
DeleteHappy early Birthday! Wow so a whole month of meetings. That is a bunch! In this county in public schools teachers come back a week before the students.
DeleteThanks for the nice birthday wish! :-)
DeleteWelcome!
DeleteI will be going back to fourth grade in a bilingual classroom. I will need to start the year assessing where the kids are in both content knowledge of reading and writing as well as how well they can demonstrate content knowledge in English. Big decisions in fourth grade regarding language of instruction and testing for these babies.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are happy with going back to fourth grade. Good luck to you and I wish you a super start to the school year. I got your 2nd message too, but since it's the same as this one I won't be publishing it. I have it set to publish or delete each post due to a lot of spam and one person who said some horrible mean untrue things. So it may some time before things are published. It depends on when I'm on my computer. I hope that helps explain it. Best of luck in the giveaway!!! Brian
DeleteI just found out I will be going back to 3rd grade after being in other grades for the past 4 years. Time to study the Common Core to find out what has changed!
